the casualties of daycare

Well, it looks as if we have our first daycare-related sniffle. Eliot woke up last night about 3am, sounding just pitiful. I used his snot-sucker to get out as much as I could, then I let him sleep in our bed, with his head on the pillow. The incline helped a little. This morning he was such a trooper! I suctioned him out real good, but he was still pretty sniffly. But he smiled and cooed right through it all, as if to say, "it's ok, Mom. It's just a little sniffle!" What a good boy!

3 Months Old

Eliot's three-month checkup went very well yesterday. He didn't have any shots, and we were ALL pretty happy about that. And for those of you who were concerned, the doctor said that Eliot is not too chunky. At 14lbs and 4oz, he's in the 75th percentile. Meaning that there are 25% more babies out there that are chunkier than he is! He can't help it if he carries his weight in his cheeks. As far as length goes, he's almost right on average at 24".

We told the doctor that he was not pushing up yet. When we put him on the floor on his tummy, he just lays there, like he's about to fall asleep. So when Dr. Stansell tried it in the office, sure enough, Eliot made a liar out of me. He just pushed right up and looked around, as if it was his favorite thing to do!

Ms. Hend

I talked to Eliot's teacher for a little while yesterday evening. She's from Lebanon. I asked if she ever talked to the kids in Lebanese, and she said that she sings to them in French, but that some parents feel funny about her talking in Lebanese. I told her to feel free to talk or sing in French, Lebanese, or whatever language she wants, as often as possible, with Eliot. It's funny what makes you feel better when you are so emotional. I kinda like the idea that someone is singing to Eliot in French when I'm not there.

flowers for mom

Eliot sent me flowers from school today. The card says, "Mommy, I'm very excited about my new friends and I can't wait to see you this afternoon. Love Eliot." I'm pretty sure that Tracey and Sonya (my boss and her partner) recommended the florist to him, and probably helped him with the card. Or maybe he's just learning a lot on his first day of school.

resting up

Eliot slept all the way through the night last night. I put him to bed at 8:00, and I had to wake him up this morning at 7:30 to get ready for his first day of school. I think he was resting up for his big day!

a star is born

Announcing Eliot's film debut! Check out the new section to the left - "Short Films". These film shorts were made by Aunt Steph. They DO have sound, so adjust your volume accordingly. I hope to get more footage as time goes on. Now, without further ado...

lesson learned

Eliot learned a valuable lesson this morning. If you smile and coo when you are drinking a bottle, you get formula in your ears.

Eliot's first Easter

We had Easter lunch at Deenie and Grandy's house. Aunt Vicki came over, too, and it was great to see her! Deenie made a beautiful Easter outfit for Eliot, with a bunny on it.

Although Eliot is a little young for the traditional chocolate bunny, we have another tradition - cascarones! Aunt Kate was the first to get the good luck crack, with Grandy breaking the egg. Deenie and Eliot went next, I think they are in for a VERY lucky year! Although Eliot thought the whole thing was pretty silly, I think next year he'll enjoy this tradition much more.

battling for sleep

Last night Eliot woke up at about 4am. He did NOT want to go back to sleep. He was in the bed with us. He kicked his legs until we lost all the covers. He stretched out his little arms until he could touch me with his fingers. He got his arms and legs moving simultaneously in big circles. Finally I rolled over and said, "What, Eliot? What is it that you want?" He looked up at me with the most wide-awake blue eyes ever, smiled the biggest, gummiest grin you've ever seen and replied with a sticky-sweet, "uuuunnngh!" I was weakened by the power of his cuteness! He won the battle this time! After all, I'm not made of stone!

a little appetizer

I have a whole bunch to post from Easter, but here's a little picture just to tide you over till I get it done! After I figure out how to use the gallery I'll put new pictures there instead. Until then check here for new pictures.

new trick

Eliot has learned a new trick! When we were at Holly's house Saturday night, he put his little fist in his mouth. Until now, he has not had enough control of his hands to do that. Then, Sunday morning, he was holding a little toy, and put that in his mouth, too. I guess we're starting a new chapter in our lives with baby.

a good night's sleep

We put Eliot in his crib last night at 8:00pm. He fussed for about 10 minutes, then he went to sleep. We went to bed around 10ish. At 3:00am, Brian woke up in a panic. "Where's Eliot?" By this time, he's usually in our bed. He had slept for a full seven hours!! Brian rushed to check on him. He'd never slept this long before!! Of course, everything was ok, but I think the door opening roused him from his slumber. He woke up right after Brian got back to bed, and he was HUNGRY!! You've never seen so much smacking! When he finally started eating, he made little "ungh.. ungh..." noises. When he was done, he drifted right back off to sleep, and only woke again at 7:00am for his morning feed. What a smart boy!

swimming lessons

Today was our second swimming lesson. Eliot was great! First, we had to get adjusted to the water.... this is the way we wash our legs, wash our legs, wash our legs. !

Then we had some kicking lessons.

Eliot was a born floater. He was so relaxed. I was only holding him by one hand under his head. He was doing the rest.

Then he went under water for the first time. He was not very happy about it. He was tired and hungry and in no mood for a new trick! But he did it
