eating

Eliot has been given the go ahead for solids. We've started with rice cereal. At first he was a little confused, and I had to open his mouth for him by pushing on his little chin. But after just a few bites, he really had the hang of it! He even started to open his mouth by himself by the end of dinner time. Right now he does not eat enough to get full, but he enjoys the game. And, of course, he does make a mess!!

4 months old

Sunday was Eliot's 4-month birthday. His 4-month checkup went swimmingly yesterday! He weighs 15lbs and 9oz, and he's 25 1/2" long. He's only gained a little over a pound in the last month, but he's still in the 75th percentile. Dr. Stansell said, "wow, he sure does look bigger than that, though." To which I replied, "well, he carries it all in his cheeks." Dr. Stansell was quick to point out, "looks like he carries it in his thighs, too!" Sheesh! His own doctor!

The bad news is that he got his 4-month round of shots. He hasn't been himself since. The daycare called today because of a little fever. I went by at lunch and gave him some Tylenol and rocked him for a little while. I'm sure he'll be better in a few days.

Christening

More on the Christening later. I just wanted to post a few of my most favorite pictures from the day. This first one is before the service, and Eliot had three - count 'em, THREE - ladies helping him dress. For what sort of production do you possibly need THREE dressers. The second picture is of my daddy with Eliot. It was a candid as they were preparing for the real posed photograph. The third one is a picture of four generations. My grandmother, my father, me, and my son. I really like this one because we all look so very happy!! Even though you can see my braces in all their glory. The last one is after the party was over. Eliot was so sleepy. He just couldn't last any longer. He passed out cold on Gigi's shoulder and took a short, but solid nap. You can only party so hard when you're four months old.

keep them doggies rollin'

The other day, Eliot was playing on his play mat while I picked up the den a bit. Suddenly I heard a shriek. Rushing to the scene, I found that he had rolled over all by himself for the first time! It scared him silly! I don't think he realized what he had done. It took me a good ten minutes to calm him down. I hope he will eventually try it again, even though it was a little traumatic the first time.

casualties of daycare II

Well, the daycare sniffle has progressed into a daycare cough. Eliot's got a tickle in the back of the throat that he just can't shake. The doctor put him on antibiotics. This is the first thing he's ever tasted that's not formula or breast milk. He LOVES it. He smacks and opens his little mouth wide when he sees the dropper comming. He looks like a little bird. I try to stretch it out so he can enjoy it as long as possible.

chilin by the pool

Yesterday we went to Steph and Lauren's house to swim in the baby pool. We had tons of fun! The water was a little chilly for Eliot. As soon as I put his toes in he squealed. He much preferred chililn by the side of the pool in his bouncy seat!

reminiscing

Ok, I know I'm backtracking a little here, but I was looking back at some old pictures of Eliot, and I just had to post a couple. I had forgotten how much hair he had when he was born! He's grown so much in just a few months! We used to have to burp him sitting up because he was too little to balance on our shoulder. Now he can almost sit up by himself! He was so tiny and fragile. He barely even fit into his smallest onsies! But his feet were still pretty big. In some ways it seems like yesterday, and in some ways it seems like a million years ago.

splish splash!

We've started bathing Eliot in the actual bath tub now. We put a big baby sponge in the bottom of the tub and fill it with a couple of inches of water. At first he lays there and closes his eyes - calm and serene. Then, after a moment, he'll get a big grin on his face and start splashing with his arms and legs. The bigger the splash the better. Every now and then he'll surprise himself with water in his face. He's startled for a second, then he grins ear-to-ear, and back to splashing!

reach for the stars

Eliot's developed a new trick! While laying on his play mat, he'll watch his little toys that hang down. He'll watch closely and studiously. Then he'll reach up and carefully aim his little fist at one of them and SWAT! Watch it swing!! He mostly uses his left hand. Maybe he's a southpaw. Now he's learned to bring the toy to his mouth.
