organizing the gallery

I have done a little organizing in Eliot's Gallery. First, I separated everything into "First Year" and "Second Year" albums. Within each album I've grouped photos into categories (ie, Halloween 04, Christmas 04, etc.) It's much easier for me to keep up with and hopefully easier for others to find old pictures that they like to return to. If you have any questions just drop me an email!

diagnosis

Last Monday Eliot's daycare called me at work. "Eliot has a very high fever, you need to come get him." So I got him, took him home and took a temp. 104 degrees. Yep, that's pretty high. I gave him some Motrin, and hoped for the best. By Tuesday his fever had not gone down at all, so we went to the doctor. They tested him for flu and bacterial infection and found nothing. You know what that means - some virus that there's nothing you can do about. All we could do was wait it out. He maintained a fever of around 100-104 until Thursday. He wouldn't eat, he wouldn't play and he had a very runny nose. All he wanted to do was sit in my lap. So that's what we did. On Friday his fever was gone and we sent him back to school. The nurse called about 4:00. "Now Eliot has a rash all over his body. You'll have to come back and get him." Sure enough, there was a red, blotchy rash from torso to neck, and starting down his arms and rear-end. When I told my mom about it she said, "Yep! I know exactly what it is. Roseola. That rash will be gone by Sunday" I didn't think it could be possible for that horrible rash to be gone in two days. So I looked it up on several websites and she's right. His symptoms fit to a tee! Who needs a doctor when you've got Deenie?!

rubber frog

In the tub last night Eliot was chewing on a rubber frog. I took it from him and tapped it three times on the side of the tub saying, "hop, hop, hop." Eliot took it back, tapped it, and repeated, "dop, dop, dop."

sniffley nose

Eliot has been sick this week. On Monday and Tuesday, in particular, he was running a very high fever and only had enough energy to slump in my lap and stare into space. He's feeling much better today, though, and went back to school this morning. One feature of his recent illness was a very runny nose. We used Kleenex galore! Eliot loves to pull the Kleenex out of the box - he finds it fascinating that another one pops out right behind it. So I started letting him pull one out each time I wiped his nose. After two or three times, he put the Kleenex up to his own nose! "Amazing!!" I thought. "He's certainly destined for a Nobel Prize at this rate!" Building on this feat, I decided to teach him to blow into the Kleenex. Sure enough, by the end of the week he was able to put the Kleenex up to his nose and blow. Now, I wouldn't say he's a master of the nose-blowing art, but he gets the gist. That's a step in the right direction. Now if only I can get him to stop tearing the Kleenex into a million tiny pieces when he's done...

pictures from Boca

Well, we are back safely on the ground in Birmingham, but I'm happy to report that we had a wonderful time in Boca Raton! Eliot is definitely a traveling man, and weathered the stress quite nicely. We had plenty to do while we were down there, and Eliot slept quite well after playing so hard. We went to the park, went swimming, watched Hunter and Colton play baseball... for complete details, see the gallery. There are lots of good pictures from the trip. My personal favorite is the one from the ballgame.

boca update

Just a quick post to let everyone know that we are having a great time here in Boca Raton, visiting Donnie, Robin, Colton and Hunter. Eliot wants to be a big boy so bad! He can feel it in his BONES! He chases his cousins around the house and around the pool and around the patio. He backs his little bottom up to Colton's lap and plants himself with or without permission. Hunter has been playing so much ball with him that when we were at the ball park Eliot accidentally threw the ball at another red-haired kid that he mistook for his cousin. The boys have been so VERY VERY nice, patient and loving with him!

Eliot has another love, too. Snickers the DAAAWWWG! Yes, that's spelled correctly - DAAAWWWG. I don't know where exactly he got the extra A's and W's, but they are undeniably there when he holds out his pizza bone and Snickers gentley takes it from his hand. "DAAAWWWG", he'll say, when he sees her outside and pats the glass door. Sometimes, for no reason, he'll just come out with it - "DAAAWWWG!"

More once we return, and pictures, too!
