Five Little Pumpkins

Just in time for Halloween, Eliot Theater presents Five Little Pumpkins. This is the largest file yet (9.5M) so if you need a smaller version let me know. As usual, here's the lyric sheet, in case you need it:
Five little pumpkins sitting on a gate
The first one said, "oh, my! It's getting late"
The second one said, "There's witches in the air"
The third one said, "We don't care"
The fourth one said, "Let's run and run and run"
The fifth one said, "Let's have some fun!"
OOOOOO! Went the wind and OUT went the light
And the five little pumpkins rolled outta sight.

Mickey!

Eliot was Mickey Mouse for Halloween. Deenie made the costume, and outdid herself yet again. There's more candy in our house than I care to admit right now. Eliot's been all hopped-up on sugar for the past three days, and I dare say that sleep-time has been a little issue. There are several pictures in the gallery of Eliot and randoms from our Halloween party.

the public

Aunt Gaines was here on Sunday when Eliot was wrapping up his "quiet time". (sidenote: we've taken to calling it "quiet time" instead of "nap time" since napping hardly ever happens. He spends about an hour in his room listening to quiet music and reading books.) Anyway, Aunt Gaines was here on Sunday after quiet time. She was changing his diaper and he did NOT want to put on his pants.
Gaines: Now, Eliot, I don't mind if you run around in your skivvies, but the public might not like it so much.
Eliot: The puglic? Are they downstairs?
Gaines: Well, no. They are not in the house.
Eliot: Are they outside?
Gaines: No, they are not right outside. Not in the yard...
Eliot: Where are the puglic?
Gaines: There might be some public at the park. And they won't like it if you're in your skivvies.
Eliot: Okay. I'll put on my pants to go see the puglic.

weird parents

We were reading a book called Weird Parents last night. It's about a little boy who thinks his parents are very embarrassing. In the end, though, he realizes how great it can be to have parents that are a little out of the ordinary. After the book I asked Eliot, "Are your parents weird?" He thought for a second and said, "Well, Daddy is."

first trip to the dentist

Eliot had his first trip to the dentist today. We've been talking about it all week - about how much FUN the dentist is!!! He's been totally excited about the whole experience...

Until today.

The waiting room was fine. There were lots of toys and other kids to play with. He was even ok when we went back into the office. We sat and talked to Dr. Kim for a few minutes about what was going to happen. Eliot was a little apprehensive and sat in my lap the whole time. Then we went to the exam room. He stopped in the doorway and refused to move any further. There was no way he was going to sit in that chair. He turned and ran. After chasing him through the office I swooped him up and he flung his arms and legs around me and buried his face in my shoulder. He held on tight. The hygenist suggested that he sit in my lap on the side of the chair and lean his head back into her lap. This was a much better situation, although not ideal in Eliot's point of view. We leaned his head back and he let out a scream for the first time. He cried for a few seconds then closed his eyes and resigned himself to the torture. The torture consisted of a good brushing, flossing between his front two teeth (the only two that touch), a brief scraping, and a fluoride treatment. Then the dentist came in. She counted his teeth and looked at all the nooks and crannies and pronounced his mouth very clean and healthy!

All in all he was a very brave boy, I think. At least, better than I anticipated. Once the whole ordeal was over he was fine again. He sat in the exam chair asked lots of questions... "what's that?" "where'd Dr. Kim go?" "is my mouth clean?"

I only had time to snap a couple of pictures, what with the chasing and holding and all. The first one is of Dr. Kim counting his teeth. The second one is of Eliot brushing Alex's teeth with the giant toothbrush. He wanted to take Alex home with us, but he creeps me out a little with the human teeth.

Milwaukee

I spent last week in Milwaukee. It was a great trip (business), except for the fact that I missed Eliot terribly. But we talked almost every night.
Monday: Eliot spent the night with Gigi, so I decided not to bother them.
Tuesday: We talked briefly. I asked about his day and he told me he was doing okay with Gigi and Daddy. Then he told me he didn't want to talk anymore. I think he was a little sad, and I was too, so we said our goodbyes.
Wednesday: Our entire conversation consisted of, "I'm turning on the hazzard lights!! They are orange and red and orange and red and orange and red!!! I'm having LOTS of fun with Daddy! Okay, I love you! BYE!"
Thursday: I announce that I'm coming home tomorrow. Eliot says, "are you bringing me a surprise from Milwaukee?" "Of course I am!" Eliot, "Is it caaandy?!" "Yes, I think I can swing that."

bathtub soup

Eliot is making soup in the bathtub tonight. He stirs and stirs.
I ask, "so, what kind of soup are you making? What's in it?"
"Noodles. And meatballs... oh! I know! and snacks! And yogurt! Want some?"
I taste a tiny bit. "Well, Eliot, for noodle-meatball-snack-yogurt-soup.. I guess it's pretty good."
