Vote Eliot - he's taller than his opponents

Eliot and I are discussing height in relation to his school friends. “Russell is shorter than me, but Gaston is taller like me.” I thought this was interesting… Russell was shorter THAN him, but Gaston taller LIKE him. So I asked, “do you mean Gaston is taller THAN you?” His answer was a simple repeat of what he had said before, “Gaston is taller like me,” and he walked away, completely dodging the real question. It almost sounded as if he was running for office. “My opponent is shorter than me. But if I get your vote, you’ll be tall, like me.” Maybe that’s how the 3-year-old class elects Line Leader every day.

Then what???

Eliot: What happens after the summer break?
Mommy: You'll be in the Butterfly class.
Eliot: Then after that?
Mommy: Then the ladybugs.
Eliot: Then after that?
Mommy: Then you'll be going to kindergarten at a different school.
Eliot: Then?
Mommy: Then Elementary school, then Middle school, then high school.
Eliot: Then what?
Mommy: Then college
Eliot: Maybe I'll be able to hop on one foot by then.

Beach trip

I'm a little late posting this, but we spent Father's Day weekend at the beach. It was very relaxing and enjoyable. We rested and played and spent a lot of time just enjoying each other's company. I'm posting pictures here in the gallery, captions included.

The Wind in the Willows

Last Friday we went to see Wind in the Willows at the Alys Stephens Center. Grandmother Galloway treated us to the tickets and a pre-show picnic. I think Eliot might have been more excited about the picnic than the play. Our real picnic got rained out, so we sat in the car. He thought that was the coolest thing ever – a car picnic! He even got to sit in the front seat.

The play was a lot of fun and Eliot was very good. He sat in his seat the whole time. I had to remind him to whisper once or twice, but all in all he was great for a first play. He had lots of questions…
“Where are those actors going?”
“Backstage”
“What’s backstage?”
“Lots of stuff, but that’s where the actors wait for their cue.”
“What’s a cue?”
“It’s the event that tells the actors to come back on stage.”

Later…

“Why is that actor wearing a boat?”
“It makes it look like he’s IN a boat.”
“I think he’s just wearing it.”

Still Later…

“Why is that man wearing a dress?”
“He’s pretending to dress up like a lady.”
“But… but… he’s wearing the dress over his regular clothes… you’re not supposed to do that!”

Anyway, we had a great time, and Eliot was surprisingly well behaved. He will definitely get to go back to the theater.

called out

Last night Eliot and Brian sat at the kitchen table, drawing pictures. Eliot became frustrated with Brian because he had drawn a line instead of a circle of something of that sort. Eliot said, "no, Daddy! Do it like THIS." Brian snipped back, "Fine, here, do it yourself." To which Eliot responded, "SOMEBODY needs an attitude adjustment."
