proud mama

Just a quick little story because I’m so proud of Eliot.

His friend C. just moved up to his class. He also has his bestest friend, G in class with him. As you can imagine, when C moved up, Eliot was torn about who to play with. One day when we arrived, C was playing with blocks and G was playing with cars. They both started in, “come play with me, Eliot! I’m at the blocks station! I’m at cars! Me! No me!” Eliot thought about it for a minute and said, “well, I really want to play blocks with C.” G looked dejectedly at his toes. Eliot hesitated for a moment and walked over to sad G. “But G,” he said, “why don’t you come play blocks with us! We could all play together.” G immediately perked up and hollered, “OK!!!” And off they ran to join C in the blocks station, giggling. I don’t know if I’ve ever been so proud of him. I’m still a little teary just thinking about the scene. Of all the “good” things that he could do or be in his life, being kind to others might be at the top of my list. It reminds me of the best piece of advise my dad ever gave me – always be nice to EVERYONE, even the people that nobody else is nice to.
